Your
instructor
Q:
How do I know my instructor is fully qualified?
A: A driving instructor must display his or her
Approved Driving Instructors badge in the windscreen
of the vehicle. A green badge shows that they are fully
qualified; a pink badge means that they are still training.
I am a fully qualified Driving Standards Agency green
badge grade 5 instructor.

Q:
Can I have the same instructor for all my lessons?
A: Yes. I work alone. However as a DSA approved driving
instructor I could, if absolutely necessary (I'e during
periods of illness etc) and with your permission contact
a local instructor to 'step in'.

Q:
Will my instructor smoke during my lesson?
A: No. I have a strict no smoking policy in my training
vehicle.
back to top Q:
Will I get a full hour of tuition?
A: Yes, i will pick you up at the time you have arranged
and you will have a full hour of one-to-one tuition.
If it is more convenient I can collect you at you at
a different place to your home, work for example and
drop you off after the lesson at home or work. This
is of course with prior notice given and within reasonable
distance.

Q:
Can I book a two-hour lesson?
A: Lessons are booked and tuition costs quoted by the
hour, but lessons lasting two hours can be arranged.
In many cases two-hour lessons are preferable and recommended.
I can discuss your particular needs and confirm the
dates and times with you at the end of your lesson.

Q:
Do lessons in the evening and at weekends cost the same
as in the daytime?
A: Yes, Lesson prices are for the quality tuition you
receive and have nothing to do with time or day of the
week, there are peak times however and lesson times
may not be free at weekends and evenings so a first
come first served basis has to operate. That said I
will try my best to accommodate your individual needs.

Q:
Will I have to share my lesson or pick up the next pupil
during my instruction?
A: No, it's against my Code of Conduct to pick up another
pupil in your lesson (known as 'piggy backing'). You
will receive personal, one-to-one instruction.
Q:
How many lessons will I need?
A: There is no set number. Driving Standards Agency
research suggests that about 40 hours of professional
training plus additional practice will give you the
best chance of passing.
The
number of lessons you need can depend on:
* how quickly you learn
* how often you are taught
* the length of your lessons
* the amount of practice you get

Q:
Do you teach intensive courses?
A: We don't offer an intensive 'package' where typically
30 to 40 hours of tuition are provided during a week
with a test booked at the conclusion of the course.
However, 3 to 4 hours a day (semi
intensive) would be a very quick way of developing the
skills required to pass the test. Tests would be booked
in the usual way.

Q:
I'm really nervous about learning to drive. Would you
advise me to try a driving simulator first?
A: Driving simulators can be useful, especially if you
are a very nervous driver, but nothing can replace in-vehicle
training with a professional instructor.
Don't
worry if you're feeling anxious about learning to drive.
I fully understand this and will soon put you at ease.

Q:
Do you offer refresher lessons? If so, how much do they
cost?
A: If you've already passed your test and need to brush
up on your skills, we can offer you a refresher course.
Lessons cost £2 above the standard hourly rate,
to reflect higher fuel costs associated with this type
of tuition. (Pupils who know how to drive often drive
faster than complete beginners.) Pass plus lessons are
also available for full license holders to gain an additional
qualification and experience in a wider variety of circumstances
such as night driving and motorways. Pass plus holders
can also get insurance discounts from certain companies
so this is a popular choice for newly qualified drivers.

Q:
Can I learn to drive on an international license?
A: In certain circumstances you are permitted to drive
for one year before having to take the UK driving test.

Q:
Will I need to book the practical and theory tests myself?
A: The practical and theory tests are an arrangement
between you and the Driving Standards Agency, but I
will be happy to help you book your test appointments.

Q:
Can you help me prepare for my theory/Hazard Perception
Test?
A: Yes, I can supply you with mock theory test papers
to help you practice.
